Atlantic Christian Wins First District Title In School History

When Miguel Cuello took over at Atlantic Christian, he did so with a championship pedigree. Cuello made his mark winning state titles at Trinity Christian, and is a member of the HSBN South Florida Hall of Fame. He won his 400th game just a few short weeks ago.
So it stood to reason that it would not be long before Cuello had the Sharks in title contention. After going 10-10 in 2025, including a district finals loss to Jupiter Christian, Cuello and his squad went to work or the 2026 season.
The season has been a huge coming out party, as Atlantic Christian went 13-2 during the regular season.
On Thursday afternoon, the Sharks found themselves right back in the district title game, with the same Jupiter Christian program on the other side of the field.
This time, however, the Sharks jumped out to an early lead, scoring six runs in the first two innings, then holding on for a 7-5 win.
“This was the school’s first district title in school history,” said Cuello. “It was a great game. When I came here last year, winning the district title was one of the goals, and it felt good for these guys to accomplish that in the second year.”
It was the top of the order that did most o the damage on Thursday, with all six hits coming from the top six hitters in the lineup. Bryan Zuniga had two hits, while Yadiel Garcia and Adon Herring drove in two runs each.
On the mound for the Sharks was Zuniga, who went the first three innings, striking out seven Eagles batters along the way.
After falling behind early, the Eagles made it a game by putting up two runs in both the third and fourth inning, cutting the Sharks lead to 6-4.
Atlantic Christian got an insurance run in the fifth, extending the lead to 7-4.
Reilly Campusano and Diego Dupree closed out the district win, throwing two innings apiece, and allowing only a lone hit each.
The win guarantees that the Sharks will be playing at home next week when the regional playoffs begin. The question now becomes, how far can these Sharks go.
They will be one of the top seeds in the regional play, and the team will suddenly have to shift from nice Cinderella stories, to one of the favorites to end up in Fort Myers at the state final four.
“Today was a product of all the hard work these guys have put in,” said Cuello. “They had visions of doing what they did today way back in August, when we started preparing or this season. It was a great accomplishment to bring the school their first district title. It is something that is special and that these guys will remember for their whole lives. Now, we have to enjoy this, and then turn the page and get ready for regionals next week.”
