Atlantic Christian Rallies In Extra Innings To Remain Undefeated

It took a lot of contributions from every guy on the Atlantic Christian roster to maintain its perfect record to start the season, but it was Reily Campusano whom played the hero role to secure the comeback victory. After trailing by a big deficit and down to their final three outs, the Sharks rallied for the tie, and then Campusano drove in the winning runs with a big hit in the eighth inning for an 8-6 victory over the Oxbridge Academy Thunderwolves on Thursday.
With two on and one out in the extra frame, Campusano stroked a two-RBI double to center field to drive in Micah Herring and Bryan Zuniga, who both had walked. It was his second hit of the day, as he was 2-for-5 and also scored twice. Campusano also picked up the win on the mound, throwing the final three relief innings to qualify for the win.
“It was a great game,” Atlantic Christian Manager Miguel Cuello said. “We were down by four in the top of the seventh inning, and came back and scored four runs on a few walks and a few base hits. That was a great game for us. Down by four in the last inning, the guys came back and did a great job.”
Herring also played a pivotal role in the comeback. His big day at the plate led to him reaching base four times while going 2-for-2 with two walks, and with one out in the top of the seventh he slugged a solo home run to center that helped spark the Sharks’ offense.
Following the long ball, the next four batters all reached base for the Sharks (5-0). Zuniga singled and Campusano reached on an error, and Diego Dipre also walked after Zuniga came in on a passed ball. Campusano pulled within a run when he also came in on a passed ball, and another defensive miscue allowed Dipre to cross the plate with the tying run.
Zuniga had three of Atlantic Christian’s nine hits, as he was 3-for-4 with two runs. Yadiel Garcia went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Sharks.
Thomas Murray led the Wolves (4-2) by going 2-for-4 with three runs, while Carlo Vazquez was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Brandon Langley went 2-for-5 with two RBI.
