West Boca Overcomes Obstacles, Wins 6A-14 Title

West Boca District Champions!
The West Boca Bulls did not take the usual path to reach the district championship this season. But for all the pitfalls and perils along the way this year, the Bulls once again found their way to a title celebration. With a 5-1 win over the Deerfield Beach Bucks, West Boca earned the District 6A-14 trophy on Wednesday night.
“This has been an atypical season for us record-wise,” West Boca Manager Jerry Albert said. “But the players kept grinding, and working, and doing everything we asked of them. I am so proud that they ended up where they were tonight, as district champions. We faced some teams this week having their best seasons in a while, and we were able to shut them down, with strong pitching, and productive hitting at the plate.”
Sophomore Gavin Russell got the start and earned the win for the Bulls (13-14). The right-hander answered the call with six strong innings, holding the Bucks to one earned run on three hits and three walks. Russell struck out five.
The offense did plenty to back the pitching, collecting eight hits and scoring in each of the first three innings to take control right away. Max McDougall was 2-for-4 with a double and a run, and Casey Turner went 1-for-3 with a double and two runs to lead the way.
“We’re very happy for the kids and proud of the way they have hung in there this year,” Albert said. “We faced a lot of adversity going into the season, and for a good portion of it, and we played a very tough schedule.”
This is the ninth overall and fourth straight district championship for West Boca, dating back to the 2022 season. Seniors Weston Schainuck and Drew Sucoff leave quite a legacy behind, having won the district title all four years of their high school careers.
