Big 5th Inning Pushes West Boca Past Jupiter
One big win can turn around an entire season.
On Wednesday night the West Boca Bulls put together a nice balanced effort again a tough opponent, as they rallied for four runs in the fifth inning for a 6-4 win over the Jupiter Warriors.
“Our team is starting to play much better this past week, and we had a terrific win this evening,” West Boca Manager Jerry Albert said. “Jupiter is definitely one of the best teams in South Florida, without question. Joe Gummule is doing a terrific job in his first year at Jupiter, and you know they’re going to go very deep into the playoffs because they’ll be prepared and they’ll be tough. So we’re glad we were able to play this year. He’s a total class act, and a great group to compete against. So overall it was a really terrific night for us.”
Christian Saunders hit a home run to pace the offense, which played a key part in the comeback later on. After Alejandro Rodriguez’s RBI single tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth, the Warriors opted to intentionally walk Saunders to load the bases rather than let him swing for another. Drew Sucoff was then patient and disciplined at the plate, leading to an RBI walk. Tyler Wilkins followed by driving in the winning run with an RBI single to left.
“We had a nice couple of innings there offensively,” Albert said. “Our pitcher did a terrific job keeping them within striking distance for us, and we are starting to really execute the simple stuff. So we’re starting to kind of figure out who goes where and who comes in when, and what our best team and our best lineups look like. The kids are really starting to turn the corner. So a win like this is tremendous for us, because it shows them how we’re capable of winning big games against very good teams, which is traditionally how we’ve always felt. So, this puts this team right where we want them to be and hopefully it’s something that can propel us to some great momentum in the second half of the year.”
