Trinity Christian Moves On To Regional Semifinals
The Trinity Christian Warriors are playing their best baseball at the right time. Wednesday night the Warriors won their sixth straight while keeping their season alive with a 10-7 win over the True North Titans, in a Class 2A regional quarterfinal at Santaluces Sports Complex. Alec Cabrera was a spark plug for the big offensive showing, as he reached base all four plate appearances and scored four runs.
Trinity had 12 hits against the Titans (13-12-1), and nearly every starter reached base to take part in the scoring output. Now the Warriors (11-12) hope to carry that momentum into Saturday’s regional semifinal, where they will travel to face the John Carroll Rams. John Carroll advanced with a 4-3 win over the Schoolhouse Prep Wolfpack.
The top of the order did the majority of the damage, led by Cabrera out of the two-hole. Cabrera was 1-for-1 and also drew three walks, scoring each time. Senior Elijah Andino went 2-for-4 with three RBI, and senior Erick Soto was 2-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and a run. Micah Herring was 1-for-3 with a double and two runs, and Oscar Diaz had two RBI.
Payton Warner battled through six tough innings to earn the victory on the mound. The freshman right-hander allowed three runs on eight hits and two walks, with three strikeouts. When the Titans made one final rally push in the seventh, Daniel Cabrera came on and pitched a scoreless frame to earn the save and close out the victory.
