Thrush Throws Gem; Dwyer Headed To States
Dawson Thrush fired a two-hit shutout and Bryce Jackson set the tone on offense with a first-inning homer as Dwyer defeated West Boca, 3-0, in a regional finals game at home on Monday.
Thrush struck out two and walked three in his 101-pitch performance. He threw 61 strikes and did not allow a baserunner past second base.
“Tonight was nothing short of amazing,” said Dwyer manager Jordan Yamamoto. “The boys did exactly what they were supposed to do; play with their hearts on their sleeves and leave it all on the field. They came together and battled.
“Dawson pitched a hell of a game. That kid is always coming in clutch when it matters. West Boca is a tough team and it was nice getting a little revenge from the district championship game loss.”
Jackson hit his first home run of the year in the bottom of the first inning and the Panthers (21-7-1), ranked #2 in Palm Beach, never looked back. They added two more insurance runs in the fifth inning to give Thrush a little more breathing room.
Trevor Majer opened the inning with a single and later scored on a single by Dom Pecoraro. Max Abrams followed with an RBI-single, scoring Pecoraro to make it a 3-0 game.
“The vibe in the dugout was outstanding and the boys battled tonight,” Yamamoto said. “Their pitcher was really good but our boys were locked in and have their eyes set on the ring, not the trophy.”
West Boca (18-12), ranked #9 in Palm Beach, got outstanding pitching from James Litman. The Bulls’ senior right-hander struck out four and walked two while yielding just four hits over six innings. He threw 52 pitches for strikes in his 78-pitch outing.
Tyler Lichtenberger and Casey Turner had a hit apiece for the Bulls.
