John Carroll Wins 2A-District 13 Title With Convincing Victory
A six-run fourth inning propelled John Carroll to an 11-1 victory over Master’s Academy on Thursday in the 2A-District 13 Tournament finals. The Rams (16-10) did all their scoring in three different innings, but the fourth-inning fireworks put the game out of reach.
Extending a 3-1 lead, the Rams’ Colt Miller ignited the inning with a solo homer. Taggert Cameron followed with a two-run single, and Ryan Cook delivered a three-run double.
Cameron led the Rams’ 13-hit attack with three of his own. He finished a home run shy of the cycle. His two-run single highlighted a three-run first inning after Master’s Academy took a 1-0 lead in the top half of the inning.
“Proud of this group,” said John Carroll manager David Parra. “Played a crazy strong schedule all year hopefully to prepare us for these moments.”
The Rams scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning to close it out.
Cook (2 RBI, run) and Brycen Payne (2 RBI) collected two hits each for the Rams while Brennan Jones added a hit and scored three runs. Ayson McIntosh (2 runs), Kaiden Jones (RBI), Cameron Hall (RBI), Colt Miller (RBI) and Jaxon Pomar (run) contributed one hit apiece.
John Carroll also got outstanding pitching from a trio of hurlers. Miller started and worked three innings, allowing just two hits while striking out one. Rodrigo Morales compiled the same stat line over two innings on the mound, and Cameron finished up with a final clean inning in relief.
“We look forward to hosting a state playoff game at home and we’ll see what happens,” said David Parra.
Joseph Celano scored Master’s Academy’s lone run. Celano bounced a one-out single to right field before C.J. Eiswerth followed with a double. Gabe Brown then sent Celano home with a sacrifice fly, and the Patriots held a 1-0 lead.
But it was all John Carroll after that and the Rams move on to the playoffs with some momentum.
