Fort Pierce Central Rallies In 7th To Walk Off Sebastian River
Things have really been clicking lately for the Fort Pierce Central Cobras. Friday afternoon they kept that good momentum rolling by rallying for a 2-1, walk-off win over the Sebastian River Sharks. Trailing 1-0 and down to its final outs, Central reversed its fortune by scoring both its runs in the final inning for the comeback victory.
The Cobras improved to 9-11, and they have now won three of their past four games to bounce back from a five-game losing streak.
Held off the scoreboard and trailing 1-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh, Central went right to work. Jarret Meyers led off with a single to right field, and then advanced into scoring position thanks to a sacrifice bunt from Justin Glickman. Tyleb Phinizee then walked to account for the winning run, which he quickly became when Charles Singletary jumped on the first pitch and sent it to center field for a game-ending, two-RBI double.
Jarrett Meyers picked up the win in relief, after coming on in the seventh to keep it scoreless and give the Cobras the chance for the comeback. Starter Ethan Schmidt delivered an impressive performance, as he piled up 10 strikeouts in six innings while allowing one earned run on four hits and a walk.
