Jupiter Christian Starts Second Half Of Season With 7-3 Win
Up until Monday, it had been a tough start to the season for a young Jupiter Christian team. The Eagles, with only five seniors on the roster, played their first game after Spring Break on Monday, and they came away with a 7-3 win over Oxbridge Academy.
Jupiter Christian was led by senior Liam Heady, who threw a complete game, allowing no earned runs, while striking out seven.
“Liam set the tone for us today,” said Eagles Manager Kennie Silvestri. “He attacked the zone early in the game, and really set the tone for us today.”
Heady was locked in a pitchers duel early in the game, with both teams only able to muster two runs each through the fourth inning. The eagles offense, however, made the difference in the game in the top of the fourth.
Heady helped his cause on the mound by leading off the fourth with a walk. An error put runners on first and second, and after a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt by Matthew Schulz, Benjamin Dulin singled home Camble Ray to give Jupiter Christian a 3-2 lead.
Sean Lehnoff then delivered the big blow of the game, a two-run double to left field, upping the score to 5-2. A double-steam later in the inning completed the four run barrage, and gave the Eagles a four run lead.
On the day, Lehnoff finished 2-for-4, with a run and three RBIs.
“Sean was a sparkplug for us today,” said Silvestri. “That double really opened things up for us, and finished off that big inning in the fourth. he was aggressive at the plate in that at-bat, and it paid off.”
From there, it was heady who closed out the game with four shutout innings, on the way to the eagles second win of the year.
“This was a great way to come out of Spring Break for us,” said Silvestri. “Hopefully we can use this game to create some momentum and get rolling at the right time as we head down the stretch. This is a game we can build on moving forward.”
Jupiter Christian is locked into a district that appears wide open. Boca Christian has jumped out and looks like the team to beat in the district, as the only team in 2A-14 with a winning record at 6-3.
The Eagles and Silvestri, who is in his first year at the helm of the JC program, are battling for seed position with Lake Worth Christian, Atlantic Christian, Berean Christian, and Trinity Christian.
