Benjamin Walks Off North Broward 1-0 In Extra Innings
A clutch double by senior Rocco Gaeta in the bottom of the eighth inning delivered a coveted victory on Thursday afternoon, as the Benjamin Buccaneers walked off with a 1-0 win over the North Broward Prep Eagles. Seniors Freddy Beruvides and Parker McGraw combined for the shutout, holding the defending state champion Eagles to five hits and three walks.
After both sides failed to cross the plate during regular innings, the Bucs (6-1) finally found themselves in the driver’s seat in the eighth. Senior Tristan Head led off with a single to center, and he then stole second base to get into scoring position. Gaeta followed by connecting on a 1-1 offering and driving it to center field for the winning hit, as Head easily came around to score.
McGraw picked up the victory to improve to 2-0 on the year. He struck out a pair in two scoreless relief innings, after Beruvides started it off with six scoreless innings with three strikeouts, three hits and three walks.
Mateo Gray also delivered a stellar pitching performance for the Eagles (7-2), tossing seven scoreless innings. The junior right-hander fanned nine while allowing six hits, with no walks.
Head and Jackson Miller both went 2-for-4 to lead the Bucs’ offense.
