Jupiter To Santaluces Slam Final With Win Over Wellington
Jupiter pounded out 10 hits against the Wolverines Wednesday night in a wild 9-8 win. As a result, the Warriors advanced to the Championship game in the 2022 Santaluces Slam.
Senior first baseman Elijah Scadina scored Jupiter’s first run in the second inning and added an RBI in the fourth on a ball smoked to third base. Wellington freshman Blake Anderson kept the ball from reaching the outfield on the hard shot.
The Warriors were patient at the plate in the first couple innings, and with the score tied at one in the third, they were able to get things rolling, scoring four runs in the frame on heads up base running.
Joey Urban got things started with a double. He then advanced to third on a Mason Barela bunt single. Both runners then scored on a Jesse Sullivan base hit to center. The Warriors would tack on a run on a groundout. Tyler Johnson doubled, and scored the final run of the inning on an error.
Wellington (1-1) fought back to take the lead with five runs of their own in the fourth inning by playing small ball, walking five times, and capitalizing on two Warriors errors, along with utilizing aggressive running on the base paths.
The lead was short-lived, however, as Jupiter immediately took the lead back with two runs in the top of the fifth, and extended the lead with two more in the sixth.
Wellington rallied for two of their own in the sixth, to cut the lead to 9-8, but Broc Bronson was able to close the door in the seventh on the comeback big, as the Warriors advanced to the title game of the tournament.
“We were able to take advantage of the opportunities we had,” said Jupiter Manager Andy Mook. “and Broc was able to close it out for us in the seventh.”
Despite the eight runs, Wellington only generated one hit on the night.
“We were able to put some balls in play but nothing resembling a rally,” said Manager Scott Riddle.
In Fridays’ finale the Warriors (2-0) will face Dwyer, who downed Park Vista 10-3 to move on to the title game.
