Lake Worth Christian Uses Big Inning To Advance
Lake Worth Christian spotted Community Christian a six-run lead in the top of the first before fighting back and beating the Cougars 9-6 on Tuesday in a 2A-7 semifinal.
The second-seeded Defenders (16-9) advance to Thursday’s championship against top-seeded Trinity Christian (18-6).
The Defenders capitalized with a five-run bottom of the fifth after being down 6-4. Yazir Braafart led off the inning with a single before Jossel Silvanie had a base hit of his own. Anthony Padilla’s two-run double to right brought in both to even the score at 6. Vinny Piccardi followed with a single to allow Padilla to score the go-ahead run. Rovinel Matilda hit a double to plate Piccardi, and Roy Glum’s sacrifice allowed courtesy runner Nick Adolphi to come home.
Josh Hoadley singled to score Jared Foster to open the scoring in the first for Community Christian. Erik Youngstrom had a base hit and Chris Sarvey delivered a base hit up the middle before Jackson Cooper reached on an error that allowed courtesy runner Vinny Feliciano to score. David Roebas doubled in Youngstrom and Sarvey and then came home on Alex Roebas’ single to left.
Lake Worth Christian came back for two runs in the bottom of the inning as Silvanie scored on a wild pitch and Braafart on a passed ball.
Braafart’s single scored Gibbs in the bottom of the second, and Adolphi came in on Martinez’s groundout in the fourth.
