Trio Of Suncoast Seniors Combine To No-Hit Lakes
Suncoast celebrated its Senior Night in style Thursday as the senior trio of Zach Perez, Danny Coyle and Aidan Whelan combined on a no-hitter in the Chargers’ 19-1 win over Palm Beach Lakes on Thursday. Perez threw the first three innings, Coyle pitched the fourth inning and Whelan finished it off, tossing the fifth and striking out the side.
Whelan also lead the Chargers’ offense, going 2-for-3 with a triple and five RBIs, and Jack Virden went 3-for-3. Alec Guerricabetia contributed with a double.
The Chargers, who broke a two-game losing streak, scored in bunches. They got six in the first, three in the second, six in the third and four in the fourth.
“It was a special night for the Suncoast Chargers seniors with the no-hitter,” Chargers manager Louie Siciliano said. “A lot of students, faculty and staff came out to support the seniors, and all seven seniors played a great game.”
Siciliano said it’s bittersweet to coach this group of seniors, who soon will be graduates moving on to the next chapter of their lives.
“I’ve gotten the opportunity to coach these kids for the past three years, and they have become real close
to accomplishing their goals of becoming doctors engineers and lawyers. I’m excited for all of them. That’s the Suncoast way. They will do great. I’m going to miss them,” Siciliano said.
