Sixth-Inning Rally Guides Jensen Beach Over Lincoln Park
Opportunities can pass you by, but if that opportunity comes in the form of a passed ball with a runner on third, that’s one chance you should definitely chase. Taking this philosophy into account on Tuesday night, the Jensen Beach Falcons took a sixth-inning lead via a passed ball with two outs to upend the Lincoln Park Greyhounds by a 4-3 final score.
The Greyhounds tied the game at three in the top of the fifth inning thanks to an Emilio Lopez sacrifice fly that scored center fielder Logan Peters and a passed ball that allowed right fielder Angel Pardo to score and give the Falcons a lead that they would not relinquish.
Scoring the go-ahead run wasn’t the only highlight of the win for Pardo, as the senior gave Lincoln Park pitching the fits by adding two hits and stealing two bases.
Earlier, Jensen Beach had seen first baseman Wade Walton drive in a third-inning run with a single, while Pardo scored by way of error and third baseman Zach Gottfried scored on an RBI single from catcher Matt Scuderi.
Lincoln Park started the night’s scoring off with third-inning RBI doubles by shortstop Derek Schwimer, one of his three hits on the night, and designated hitter Emilio Lopez.
On the mound for the Falcons Tuesday night was Chase Nugent, who struck out three across his four innings of work. Throwing 63 total pitches Nugent allowed only four hits and, aside from the third inning, looked extremely comfortable on the mound.
Opposing Nugent and taking the bump for the Greyhounds was Christian O’Kelly, who only pitched three innings but threw 64% of his pitches for strikes and threw first-pitch strikes to nine of the fourteen men he faced.
Reliever Shawn Blake pitched two-and-a-third innings of relief for the Falcons and recorded the win, while Doug Rinier induced the final two outs to get the save.
