Palm Beach Central Keeps Pace in 9A-9 With Win Over Jupiter
The Palm Beach Central Broncos won a critical district 9A-9 contest against the visiting Jupiter Warriors by a score of 4-3 Tuesday night. Having lost to the Warriors by the same score earlier in the year, the win comes at a perfect time for the Broncos, snapping them out of a two-game slide and preventing Jupiter, who had won two in a row, from gathering any momentum.
Connor Power, a veteran leader for the Broncos, had a perfect night at the plate, recording a hit in each of his three at bats and driving in a run. He also scored the tying run after splitting the right-center gap for a triple in the sixth.
Quality pitching on both sides led to a quiet night for the first four innings. Zak Sprankle made the start for Jupiter and kept the Broncos off the board throughout his five innings, fanning three while scattering four hits, the most notable being a fourth-inning double by Brendan Power.
Kameron Ouellette and Zach Brundage teamed up to keep the Warriors scoreless through the first four innings. Jupiter broke through for a run in the fifth when Ramon Machado led off with a single and scored on a fielder’s choice by Brandyn Ward. Andrew Martinez tacked on another for the Warriors by looping a double into right field and coming around on an error in the sixth.
After Connor Power’s heroic triple in the sixth, the Broncos scored twice more thanks to RBI basehits by Pierson Reynolds and Jacob Shue.
Jupiter closed out the scoring in the seventh. Reese Albert began the inning with a double and Martinez brought him in with his second knock of the game, but the rally fizzled out after that.
