Okeechobee Outlasts Fort Pierce Central In Eight Innings
The Okeechobee Brahmans needed an extra inning to do it, but eventually they were able to come away with a 2-1 victory over Fort Pierce Central in a nail-biter on Monday night.
It took more than three innings just to put a dent in the scoreboard as the two starting pitchers ruled the early going. Michael O’Brien took to the hill for the visiting Cobras and tossed five innings, allowing three hits and one run while striking out six.
His opposite number, Baron Stuart, also worked five, giving up a run on one hit while tallying five Ks. Stuart played a huge part on offense as well, drawing first blood for the Brahmans (3-3) by taking his mound opponent deep over the right-field fence in the bottom of the fourth.
The Cobras (2-2) knotted things back up at one apiece when Robbie Bingham scored in the top of the sixth. That is where things stayed until the end.
Okeechobee scored the final run of the evening in complete opposite fashion of how they scored the first. Playing small ball, they worked lead-off man Jared Morgan around the bases for the walk-off in the bottom of the eighth. Cody Louthan then picked up where Stuart left off on the mound, earning the save with three innings of one-hit ball while also striking out five.
Both teams now find themselves sitting at .500 and will be facing off against the South Fork Bulldogs in their next match-up. For the Brahmans, that game will happen on Friday and will have district implications, while the Cobras will get their chance at redemption Tuesday evening.
