Miscue Helps Royal Palm Upset Seminole Ridge
Royal Palm Beach took advantage of an error for the go-ahead run in the fourth that held up as the winning run in the Wildcats’ 2-1 upset win over Seminole Ridge on Thursday in an 8A-12 game.
With Royal Palm down 1-0, Nick Toney led off the bottom of the fourth with a single. After Zach Retzler flied out, Luke Hollander was intentionally walked. Following a strikeout, Nick Adams belted a single to center field to score courtesy runner Bailey Curtis to tie it at one. An error allowed Hollander to score.
Seminole Ridge (10-3-1, 5-1), ranked fourth in the HSBN Palm Beach County Power Rankings, opened the game with a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. With two outs, Richie Cotromano hit a line-drive double to left. Andrew Attaway followed with a double to left of his own to bring in Cotromano, who went 3-for-3 with two doubles and a run.
The loss overshadowed a stellar outing for the Hawks ace lefty Kyle Farjad, who pitched a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts and walked three.
Logan Pitman, Sean Houck, Troy Hamilton and Adams combined to allow seven hits while striking out five for the Wildcats (6-9, 1-4), who got their first win in the district. The win helped the Wildcats bounce back from a 1-0 loss to Forest Hill in a district game last Friday.
Seminole Ridge lost for the first time since March 9th and had its three-game winning streak snapped.
