Lincoln Park Edges Treasure Coast
Lincoln Park won its second in a row for the first time this season and fought off a pesky Treasure Coast team 1-0 on Tuesday in a non-district contest.
The Greyhounds, who evened their record at 5-5, got a run in the top of the seventh to break up a scoreless pitchers’ duel between Lincoln Park’s Connor Apugliese and Treasure Coast’s Nick D’Arpe. Apugliese pitched six innings, striking out six, walking three and giving up one hit. D’Arpe fanned one, walked one and allowed seven hits in his six innings.
Derek Schwimmer blasted a line-drive single to center field after Robert Williams grounded out to start the top of the seventh. Jeffrey Gerlica reached on a base-on-balls before Apugliese singled to right to score Schwimmer for the go-ahead run.
Gerlica pitched a solid seventh in relief of Apugliese. He induced a groundout and then struck out the last two batters to finish off the win.
Treasure Coast had two batters on in the first, but it never had more than one runner on base an inning after that, and none were in scoring position.
Lincoln Park will compete at LaBelle on Friday as it looks to extend its 3-1 record in 5A-13. Treasure Coast (1-7) will be looking for its first win in 9A-7 as it travels to undefeated Vero Beach on Friday.
