Fort Pierce Central Rallies Past Lincoln Park In Extras
The Fort Pierce Central Cobras snapped a four-game slide by defeating the Lincoln Park Academy Greyhounds by a score of 7-6 in extra-innings on Tuesday night.
Spencer Adderly drove in a pair of runs in a perfect 3-for-3 night at the plate to pace a Cobras squad that tallied 10 hits, with four of them going for extra-bases.
While things eventually turned in their favor, the Cobras found themselves in a hole early. An RBI single by Connor Apugliese, who proved a tough out in a 3-for-4 outing, gave the Greyhounds a quick 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first before the club emulated their namesake to score two more. First, Quentin Peters darted home on a passed ball, and then Anthony Oliveri made it 3-0 on a steal of home.
The Cobras put a dent in the lead in the following inning, scoring two runs on a Jake Slattery double and an error by Lincoln Park.
The Greyhounds came right back with a two runs of their own in the bottom half, both supplied by a Apugliese double. Apugliese added his forth ribbie of the night with a single in the fourth.
Trailing 6-2, the Cobras put together a four-run fifth inning to knot things up. Brett Oliver began the inning with a single and was promptly brought around when Jacob Harrison tripled into left field. Harrison scored himself on a wild pitch and Slattery sacrificed another run in to narrow the lead to one. Adderly then brought things even with a run scoring double into center field.
Adderly played the hero again in the eighth, leading off the inning with a basehit then scoring on the Cobras fourth extra-base hit of the night, this one a double by Zach Moen.
