South Fork Capitalizes On Big Inning To Win
Sometimes in baseball one big inning is enough to win. It certainly was Tuesday night for South Fork, which capitalized on a six-run sixth to defeat Lincoln Park 7-1 in a non-district matchup.
The Bulldogs unloaded for six runs in the sixth to go ahead. Winger walked to lead off the inning before Travis singled to center field. Ben Zinderman was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Marcus Mastellone, who laid down a bunt single to bring in Winger for the go-ahead run. Tim Kudlinski walked, allowing Travis to score, and Dalton Deakins reached on a base on balls that allowed Zinderman to come home. Mike Polk walked to bring in courtesy runner Connor Annear to make the score 5-1. Brenden Kudlinski smacked a two-run single for the final runs, bringing home Tim Kudlinski and Deakins.
Derek Schwimer led off with a single and scored on Emilio Lopez’s double to give the Greyhounds (1-2) the lead in the top of the first.
The Bulldogs (3-0) answered in the bottom of the second when Jacob Winger reached on an error and scored on Jacob Travis’s single up the middle.
Both teams put on two runners in each of the third and fourth innings but couldn’t bring them in.
Tyler O’Neal recorded the win for the Bulldogs. He tossed three and one-third innings of shutout ball, striking out four, walking none and giving up no hits.
