Port St. Lucie Moves Runs Away With 7-2 Win Over Treasure Coast
The Port St. Lucie Cougars hosted the Treasure Coast Titans on Wednesday night and came away with a 7-2 victory.
Robert Ocasio was vital to the Cougars efforts and accounted for their first run of the game single-handedly. After narrowly escaping a scoring opportunity by the Titans in the top of the first, Ocasio led off the bottom half by reaching on an error. He stole second and third base during the next two at-bats before finally coming home on a two-out error, giving St. Lucie a 1-0 advantage in the early going. Ocasio would proceed to rack up two hits in four at-bats while driving in two runs and scoring another. He also accounted for three of the Cougars seven stolen bases in the game.
The Titans played some small-ball to answer right back in the top of the second when Williams drew a lead-off walk, was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and then scored on a single by Bramhall.
Jose Barrios, who had two stolen bases of his own and enjoyed a perfect 3-for-3 night at the plate, rapped an RBI double into the right-center gap to put the Cougars back on top, 2-1 in the bottom of the second.
It took an inning, but Treasure Coast once again responded, knotting things back up at two apiece courtesy of an RBI single by Salerno in the fourth.
From there, it was all Port St. Lucie. The Cougars scored two unearned runs in the fourth for a 4-2 lead and then Lee Horacio, another speedster who tallied a pair of swiped bags, doubled in the fifth and was brought home by Zach Taglieri to widen the gap to 5-2. Ocasio and Barrios struck again in the sixth, this time with a pair of two-out singles. Barrios scored on Ocasio’s and, after stealing his third base of the night, Ocasio came around on a single by Ian Claudio to finalize the score at 7-2.
Next up for Port St. Lucie is Fort Pierce on Friday night while the Titans prepare for Vero Beach.
