Lake Worth Walks-Off John I. Leonard 6-5 In Eight Innings
Host Lake Worth refused to relent in a seesaw battle with John I. Leonard on Monday night. After scoring a run in the bottom of the seventh to tie things up and force extra innings, the Trojans rallied one last time for victory. Omar Reyes smacked a triple to drive in two base-runners for a walk-off, 6-5 win.
The lead changed hands four times in all, the last coming with one out in the bottom of the eighth. The Lancers had gone back up in the top half of the seventh when Angel Hoyos singled and later scored on an error. Yomil Maysunett was hit by a pitch and David Recio followed with a double to set the stage for Reyes, who responded to send the winning hit to center field.
Lake Worth improves to 4-3, marking the first time the Trojans have held a winning record this late in the year since the 2007 season. The team has already nearly matched its win total from last year.
Angel Hoyos had a big day at the plate for Lake Worth, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Nelson Velasquez was 2-for-4 with two runs, and he singled and scored on an RBI double from Hoyos to rally his club back in the bottom of the seventh.
Jason Angulo led John I. Leonard (1-5) by going 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Nestor Valdez was 2-for-4.
The Trojans got solid pitching all night, but were plagued by errors that were nearly their undoing. Starter Juan Rodriguez struck out six in four and two-third innings, while Ho-Chi-Ming Hernandez earned the victory.
