Highlights, Scores and Recaps for Wednesday, April 22nd, 2015

James Butera was the winning pitcher and also delivered the game-winning RBI single in the top of the ninth inning to lead Atlantic to a 4-3 upset win over Forest Hill in a 7A-13 semifinal Wednesday. The Eagles advance to take on Royal Palm Beach at 7 tonight in the championship.

Austin Smith tossed a complete game, striking out seven, and also went 3-for-3 with three RBIs to power Park Vista to their 25th consecutive win, 11-0 over Spanish River in an 8A-10 semifiinal. The Cobras take on Boca Raton in tonight’s championship at 7 p.m. Boca’s only two losses this season have come against the Cobras. Joe Genord led Vista, going 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs, and Jordan Poore went 2-for-2 with a run. Ben Greenstein went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Colin Smith homered.

In the other 8A-10 semifinal, Mitchell Senger tossed a complete game, striking out nine and allowing one hit as Boca Raton beat John I. Leonard 5-0. Mike Amditis hit a two-run home run, and Sean Lawler drove in two runs.

Aldrich de Jongh struck out 11 in six innings to guide Trinity Christian to a 10-0 win over Oxbridge Academy in a 3A-14 semifinal. The Warriors move on to Friday’s championship and await the winner of tonight’s game between Westminster Academy and Highlands Christian.

Zach Schneider pitched American Heritage to a 3-0 win over King’s Academy in 4A-13. He went five innings, striking out five and allowing one hit. Hunter Bowling drove in two runs and stole two bases. The Stallions will take on Cardinal Newman in Friday’s championship.

In the other 4A-13 semifinal, Cardinal Newman held off Pope John Paul II to win 6-4. Luis Besteiro went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Carson Powell also doubled in two runs for the Crusaders. Evan Schaffner went 2-for-3 with a home run and Chris Graffeo doubled in two runs for the Eagles.

Nicholas Hudak was the winning pitcher in Glades Day’s 12-1 win over Atlantic Christian Academy in 2A-12. They’ll face Berean Christian in this afternoon’s title game.

Berean Christian beat Community Christian 4-1 in the other 2A-12 semifinal. Armani Zalez pitched a complete game, striking out four and also went 2-for-4.
