It’s A Two-Horse Race In 2A-13

Freshman Zach Gray will play at first base this year for the Blazers.

This small district presents a great opportunity for the teams involved. The winner of this district could be looking at a potential bye in the regional quarterfinals, which would make it an easier road to advance and make a run for a state title.

With so few match ups against their district foes, it puts a lot of emphasis on those contests.

“I’ve heard great things about Clint Erickson and their program over at Boca Christian,” said new Zion Lutheran Manager Ray Ayala. “We look forward to facing them. I don’t know what they have over there, and really I don’t even know what we have over here yet. As far as I know they are thinking the same thing that we are. We only have two district games, so they are very big.”

The Crusaders are still searching for a district title under Manager Clint Erickson, and this year gives them an excellent chance. The club boasts three players who have all player at least three years for this program, and the Blazers know if they stay focused on their goal they should be successful. That goal is to do everything on purpose and with purpose.

With so much of the Lions roster compiled of new players under a new manager, Boca Christian certainly brings an advantage in having more cohesion as a group. But with just one district game to be played, both sides understand that anything can happen.

It’s something the teams lucky enough to have one can take for granted: the batting cage.

But at Boca Raton Christian, the team is using one for the first time this season, and it has everyone going batty — but in a good way.

No longer will the Blazers have to try to get in their reps on the field. No longer will they not being able to work on specific hitting deficiencies that only a cage can uncover…[Read More]

Zion Lutheran

2013 Record: 13-10
Manager: Ray Ayala
Coaching Staff: Juan Ubinas
Key Returners: Manny Rojas, Blayne Baker
Newcomers to watch: Steven Vazquez, Jordan Pacifico, Michael Blanco, Jose Rodriguez
Team strengths: Senior Leadership

Ray Ayala has always been involved in coaching in the city of Miami. But when the chance to take over a young program and mold them into a contender opened up, Ayala jumped at the opportunity.

Ayala takes over a Zion Lutheran program that is starting fresh with almost an entirely new roster this season. Although the Lions were just one game away from making the state playoffs a season ago, almost every player from that roster has now moved on. It is a young and fresh new crop of players that Ayala will manage, and it is going to take some work to mold this squad into a state contender…[Read More]
