HSBN Palm Beach Game Of The Week Schedule Announced
The HSBN Palm Beach Game of the Week is back in 2014 for its second season, and the schedule includes some of the top programs and rivalries in the county. Last season, the High School Baseball Network Broward Game of the Week produced some of the most exciting games of the entire season. In 2014, HSBN has honed in on some of the most bitter rivalries, district foes, and former state champions all looking to get back to Fort Myers.
This year, HSBN has put together seven of the top match-ups on the schedule. Here’s a look at what’s in store.
On Thursday, February 13th, neighborhood rivals Spanish River and West Boca face off in what has become one of the fiercest rivalries in Palm Beach. West Boca is just a few years removed from being state champions, and are coming off a season in which they reached the regional finals. Spanish River is eying a return to prominence with a below-the-radar mentality. The Sharks will get their chance to make a statement early in this one.
Cardinal Newman is the only Palm Beach team that will make two appearances in the Game of the Week this year. The Crusaders, a regional playoff team last year, will look to improve on their 18-10 season a year ago. Cardinal Newman will host St. Andrew’s, and first year Manager Rich Mahon on Thursday, February 20th.
On Saturday, March 8th, the Crusaders will travel to face Dwyer, who is making their first appearance in an HSBN Game of the Week. The Panthers will be playing in one of the top districts in the state, and have loaded their non-district schedule with playoff teams from last year such as the Crusaders.
An old rivalry is renewed on Saturday, March 1st, when King’s Academy travels to face the Stallions of American Heritage. The two teams have been among the strongest programs in the county over the past few years, and the Stallions have made several state appearances during that time. The Lions and Stallions return to the same district in 2014, and HSBN is proud to be hosting what will be one of the biggest district games of the season.
Two teams that were in the regional playoffs last season meet up on Friday, March 28th. Benjamin and Pope John Paul have been knocking on the door of becoming elite programs in recent years, and this could be the year that comes to fruition. The Buccaneers move into a district with mostly out-of-area teams, while the Eagles add Cardinal Newman, St. Andrew’s, and King’s Academy to a district that already included American Heritage.
Santaluces is a few years removed from their last playoff appearance, and Boca is attempting to stabilize their program with their third coach in four years. The teams meet in Boca on Saturday, April 5th.
The final Game of the Week projects to be one of the best. Jupiter and Palm Beach Central are bitter district rivals that will once again be batting for the top spot. The abundance of talent on the field, along with the late season date of this game, makes their match-up on Friday, April 11th one that is expected to play a major role in determining seeding in 8A-9.
