Jupiter Moves to 10-0 With Win Over Suncoast
Logan Heiser hit a three-run bomb in the fourth and Parker Hamilton came in for the nine-out save as the Jupiter Warriors muscled out an 8-3 win against the Suncoast Chargers on Tuesday night.
Jupiter used a balanced combination of effective pitching and timely hitting to come out of the back-and-forth battle victorious.
“Our bats came out and we did a good job,” Jupiter Manager Andy Mook said. “We got quite a few guys who didn’t swing at the pitchers pitch. They are looking for something they could handle and being patient at the plate and don’t mind taking a walk. Brandon Keithley did a fine job and Parker Hamilton did a good job coming in and closing the door.”
Jupiter and Suncoast traded blows most of the night, as the Warriors (10-0) got things started early with a Logan Heiser RBI single in the first.
The Chargers answered back in the third though when the Warriors’ lone error on the night turned out to be a costly one. After Suncoast left fielder Calvin Page drew a walk, Jupiter starter Brandon Keithly overthrew his first baseman when trying to pick him off. The ball rolled all the way to the outfield allowing Page to go all te way to third. Chargers center fielder Matt Coleman came up and grounded out to the pitcher, allowing Page to score.
Jupiter answered back and had big innings in the third and fourth, which ended up being the difference-maker in the game offensively and ultimately led to the win.
“We got up early but then they got a couple of runs,” Warriors catcher Logan Heisey said. “It didn’t seem to phase us and we just got right back in there.”
The third inning for Jupiter featured a two-RBI double to dead center by Pat Walter and an RBI double by Scott Danek.
But Suncoast (4-5) continued to battle, as it got two runs back in the top of the fourth with an RBI single from Jorge Ramos and an RBI double from Carson Morris to pull within one run at 4-3. That would be the closest the Chargers would get the remainder of the game as Jupiter had another big inning in the bottom half of the fourth.
A quick out, followed by three straight singles including an RBI single by second baseman Glen Casaceli, brought up the hard-hitting Heiser with one out and two men on. Heiser tattooed a ball to deep left-center field for a three run home run that accounted for three of his four RBIs on the night.
The 3-4-5 hitters in Heiser, John McCarthy and Pat Walter for Jupiter proved to be big again tonight. Going a combined 5-for-11, the three hitters combined for all but two runs batted in on the night.
“We are blessed to have those three guys for hitting,” Mook said. “I was confident they were going to hit. Pat was really big for us last year. John and Logan both can swing the stick really well and all three of those together really create a problem for other teams because they can’t pitch around them.”
Brandon Keithley started the game on the mound for the Warriors and went four innings allowing three runs on three hits. Leaving the game with a one run lead, coach Mook turned the ball over to reliever Parker Hamilton, who pitched lights out in recording the nine-out save.
“I trusted all my off-speed stuff tonight,” Hamilton said. “I knew that I could use my fastball enough but I knew if I had my off-speed stuff I could use it as well and get them out.”
Despite the perfect record, coach Mook is taking it one game at a time and still looking to improve.
“We have some baserunning we need to work on,” Mook said. “Some guys need to work on their two-strike approach, recognizing certain pitches. Our IO needs to get a little more crisp, we weren’t hitting the cutoff guys too much. Just all the little things.”
Jupiter looks to improve their record to 11-0 on Wednesday when they take on the Boca Raton Bobcats at home.
