Pavlov, Benjamin Shut Down Jupiter Christian 4-0
The culmination of the high school baseball season is one of the most unique experiences a player will have as he gets to share some of the most lasting memories of his life.
For Benjamin and Jupiter Christian, they got to share one last tune of the laces at Roger Dean Stadium, as both hosted their respective senior days at the stadium.
“It’s great to be able to play at Roger Dean,” Jupiter Christian senior Brandon Cormier said. “It’s a great experience for us, especially getting to play Benjamin.”
With the Roger Dean Stadium lights beaming on both squads, the Buccaneers prevailed with a four-run fifth inning.
After four and half scoreless frames, the Buccaneers broke through with a clutch RBI single by Brian Dolan. The junior catcher drove in Chad Swift, who single and stole second base to get into scoring position. Senior pinch-hitter Tom Pervis game the Buccaneers the final lift they needed as he crushed a double in the right-center gap to set up two more runs for Benjamin.
The Buccaneers then went back to the basics to score their second run, as A.J. Alevizos squeezed to bring in the run. Senior Matt Harris added the final run of the inning as he scored Alevizos with a RBI single to make it 4-0.
It would be all John Pavlov needed as the right-hander tossed a complete game shutout to seal the victory. For the Buccaneers, it was a nice way to pay tribute to the seniors as they got to see the complete turnaround of the Benjamin baseball program.
“They are great, lots of veteran leadership,” coach Brian Kaplan said. “A lot of these guys have been here since the beginning, when the program was not as successful. They see the hard work and dedication it takes to turn the program around.”
While the Buccaneers took the game, the Eagles learned a lot about themselves as starter Andrew Morgan came back for the sixth inning and pitched a scoreless frame after giving up four in the previous inning.
“We just need to keep coming out each day and trust the process,” David Loud said about his team’s relentless pursuit. “The spirits are good, we are playing good baseball and we have to believe in what we re doing.”
