Summit Christian’s Silviano Signs With North Florida
No player from the Summit Christian baseball team signed on Wednesday’s National Early Signing Day, but only because the school opted to hold their ceremony on Thursday instead.
At that time the Saints’ John Silviano officially signed his college letter-of-intent with North Florida University.
The catcher/third baseman/right fielder is excited to play for Coach Smoke Laval, who has told him the team plans to play him right away and bat him third in their lineup.
“I’m just excited to see what my future holds; I really feel like I’m going to progress well at North Florida,” said Silviano. “It’s a weight off my shoulders going into my senior season knowing I don’t have to worry about this decision anymore.”
Silviano relied heavily on advice from his father in helping to make this decision, but after taking an unofficial visit to the school he fell in love with the campus and ultimately felt the school was the best fit for him.
Coming from a small school like Summit Christian, where all the students tend to know each other and become close, Silviano is excited to be a role model for future Saints players.
“With hard work anything is possible,” he said. “The younger kids are curious about how does the process work, and how can they get themselves recruited. It is hard to know what is coming; there is a lot of paperwork and meeting with coaches. I’m just happy I now know where I am going, and that I can show these guys how the process works.”
Silviano credits his family, and especially his father, in guiding him through the entire process that ultimately led to Thursday’s big moment.
“It’s hard to know what is coming,” he said. “It’s just a relief to have him.”
