Jupiter Christian Wins First District Title In Four Years
It has been four years since Jupiter Christian won a district title, and when manager Kenny Silvestri took over the program last year, the goal was to get the Eagles back on top.
On Thursday afternoon, Jupiter Christian did just that, winning the 1A-14 championship 2-0 over Atlantic Christian.
“It was a great pitcher’s duel today,” said Silvestri. “My hat goes off to Gonzalez (David), who did a great job for Atlantic Christian all day. For us, all three of our guys were up to the task. It was a great baseball game and I am proud that we came out on top.”
The scoring in this one all happened early.
In the first, Sean Lehnoff hit a one-out double. He then came around to score on an error.
The second run scored when Luke Winters and Camble Ray both walked, and Winters came around to score on an error.
The two runs were enough to capture the Eagles first district title since 2021.
“Atlantic Christian is a well-coached team by Miguel Cuello, and he had his team ready to play today,” said Silvestri. “We just pitched well, played good defense, and I am happy for the kids that they get to bring the district championship back to the school.”
The Eagles and Sharks will both now turn their attention to regional play, where the focus will be on advancing to states in Fort Myers.
Jupiter will be the higher ranked team when the final state rankings come out on Friday, but that does not mean Atlantic Christian will be forgotten. With the 1A regionals appearing to be wide open, there is a strong likelihood that these two teams could will see each other again in regional play.
To advance to states, the eagles and Sharks will have to contend with several traditional Miami powerhouses, including Brito, who won their district title on Wednesday, 6-5, over Schoolhouse Prep.
For Silvestri, the district title represents the first step in what he hopes will be a long post-season run.
“We are excited to see on Friday who we will face in regionals. But whoever it is, we will be ready to play. Winning the district title was awesome, and now it is time to focus on what comes next in our season.”
